The Weengushk International Film Festival (WIFF) is an Indigenous-run independent film festival located on Manitoulin Island in Northern Ontario, Canada. Founded in 2018 by Shirley Cheechoo's Weengushk Film Institute, it aims to showcase high-quality films that emphasize Indigenous voices, human rights, social issues, and the environment. The festival presents a program of local, national, and international Indigenous-themed films, including works by young, emerging, and established filmmakers, as well as graduates of the Weengushk Film Institute. WIFF also features multidisciplinary activities such as film screenings, keynote speakers, presentations, musical performances, and industry workshops. The festival, which has offered both in-person and online experiences, aims to support and build community for filmmakers and share Indigenous culture and language.
