The Animation Filmmakers Competition (AFC) is a significant initiative launched as part of the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES), a global event for the Media & Entertainment sector hosted by the Government of India. This nationwide competition, developed in partnership with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and Dancing Atoms, aims to discover and empower Indian storytellers in animation. It provides a platform for filmmakers to present original animated films and related projects across categories like traditional animation, VFX, AR/VR, and virtual production. Participants go through mentorships and masterclasses, culminating in a final pitch session at the WAVES Summit, with winners receiving cash prizes and opportunities to launch their ideas into films. The inaugural edition of the WAVES summit and the AFC are scheduled to take place in Mumbai in May 2025.
