The Viennale, officially known as the Vienna International Film Festival, is a prominent film festival held annually in October in Vienna, Austria. Established in 1960, it showcases a diverse selection of new films from around the world, including features, documentaries, short films, and experimental works, often prioritizing cinema outside the mainstream. The festival is non-competitive and recognized by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF). In collaboration with the Austrian Film Museum, the Viennale also organizes a yearly historical retrospective and presents awards such as the Vienna Film Prize and the FIPRESCI Prize.
