The Vermillion Vortex Film Festival is an independent film festival held in Vermillion, South Dakota, home to the University of South Dakota. Launched in September 2024 by the Vermillion Cultural Association, the festival aims to create a community for cinema enthusiasts and filmmakers, showcasing movies produced by regional Midwest filmmakers and those filmed in South Dakota and neighboring states. The second annual event is scheduled for September 26-28, 2025, at the downtown Coyote Twin Theater. The festival includes feature films and short film blocks, and also offers opportunities for networking and workshops.
