Un Certain Regard (French for "A Certain Glance") is a prominent section of the official selection at the Cannes Film Festival, running parallel to the main competition for the Palme d'Or. Introduced in 1978 by Gilles Jacob, this section is dedicated to showcasing approximately 20 films with unusual styles and non-traditional stories that seek international recognition. The Prix un Certain Regard was established in 1998 to recognize emerging talent and encourage innovative works, offering a grant to aid the distribution of the winning film in France. Since 2005, the prize has included €30,000, funded by the Groupama GAN Foundation. The section presents "art and discovery films by young auteurs" and features a dedicated jury each year.
