The Sundance Film Festival is an annual event organized by the Sundance Institute, showcasing independent films from American and international filmmakers. Founded in 1978 as the Utah/US Film Festival, it was renamed the Sundance Film Festival in 1991 and has since become the largest independent film festival in the United States. The festival features competitive sections for dramatic and documentary films, both feature-length and short, as well as out-of-competition categories. Historically held in Utah, the festival will move to Boulder, Colorado, starting in 2027.
