The Red Nation International Film Festival (RNIFF) is recognized as the authentic voice of American Indian and Indigenous Cinema and is the largest Native film festival in the United States, and the first Native film festival in Los Angeles. Founded in 1995 by Joanelle Romero, the festival is a program of the Red Nation Celebration Institute and focuses on increasing the visibility of American Indian and Indigenous storytellers and artists in the entertainment landscape. Held annually as part of American Indian Heritage Month in Los Angeles, RNIFF showcases features, documentaries, short films, and student films, with a particular emphasis on Indigenous films directed by women and those produced, directed, written by, or starring Native talent, or exploring the American Indian and Indigenous experience. The festival is notable for offering guaranteed distribution for award-winning Native and Indigenous independent films through its partnership with Red Nation Television Network.
