The Pulling Focus African American Film Festival, based in the Quad Cities, is an annual event dedicated to showcasing cinematic stories by and about people of African descent. Founded by Gaye Shannon Burnett and Jonathan Burnett, and presented by the Azubuike African American Council for the Arts, the festival aims to empower Black filmmakers and foster an appreciation for Black culture and experiences. Now in its third year, the festival features short films from local, regional, national, and international filmmakers representing the Black Diaspora, including screening events, panel discussions, and an awards ceremony. The festival also includes an "Open Competition" Showcase and a "Reel Impact" category for films with strong social messages.
