The Providence 48 Hour Film Project is a local iteration of the global 48 Hour Film Project, challenging teams to write, shoot, and edit a short film in just 48 hours within Providence, Rhode Island. Participants are given a genre, character, prop, and line of dialogue at the start of the competition weekend, typically held in June. Films created during the project premiere at a local cinema, and the winning film from Providence advances to Filmapalooza to compete against other city winners worldwide. The Providence 48 Hour Film Project is fiscally sponsored by Kindling, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and also offers workshops and other programs to support the local filmmaking community.
