The News & Documentary Emmy Awards are presented by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) to recognize excellence in American news and documentary programming. These awards honor artistic and technical merit within the American television industry, with ceremonies generally held in the fall. While the majority of categories are for national programming, a few awards also acknowledge local news programming. Eligibility requires a show, documentary, or news report to have originally aired on American television during the specified eligibility period and reached at least 50 percent of the country.
