The Mar del Plata International Film Festival, held annually in November in Mar del Plata, Argentina, is the only competitive feature film festival recognized by the FIAPF in Latin America and the oldest in its category in the Americas. Organized by the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA), the festival was established in 1954 and gained competitive status and FIAPF recognition in 1959. It currently features several competitive sections, including International, Latin American, Argentine, and Altered States Competitions, with awards such as the Golden Ástor for Best Film and Silver Ástor for various categories.
