Lumières d'Afrique is a film festival dedicated to African cinema, held annually in Besançon, France, the birthplace of the Lumière brothers. Established in 1996 by a collective of associations linked to the African continent, the festival aims to showcase the rich cultural diversity of Africa through recent, rare, and relevant cinematic productions. It features competitions for long-feature fiction films, short-feature fiction films, and documentaries, with various awards presented. The event, primarily run by volunteers and supported by the APACA (Association pour la Promotion des Arts et des Cultures d'Afrique), has become a significant cultural event in Besançon, attracting a diverse audience and fostering discussions between spectators and filmmakers.
