The Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF), Nepal's largest and longest-running film festival, has been held in Kathmandu since 2000. Starting as a biennial event, it became annual and competitive in 2007, typically taking place around December 11 to coincide with International Mountain Day. Organized by the KIMFF Foundation, the festival showcases films about mountains, mountain environments, cultures, and communities, while also addressing themes like resilience, identity, and climate justice. It features programs such as 'Nepal Panorama,' which highlights Nepali cinema, and includes filmmaker forums, workshops, and the Kathmandu Doc Lab. Supported by entities like the Film Development Board and Nepal Tourism Board, KIMFF aims to foster dialogue and creative exchange through the universal language of film.
