The Istanbul Film Festival is Turkey's first and oldest international film festival, organized annually by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV). Established in 1982 as a film week and becoming a separate event in 1984, it was accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) as a "competitive specialized festival" in 1989. Held every April in Istanbul, the festival aims to encourage the development of cinema in Turkey, promote quality films in the Turkish market, and help Turkish cinema gain international recognition. It is considered the biggest and longest-running international film festival in Turkey, showcasing around 130 titles each year, including a broad selection of recent Turkish productions.
