The Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF), established in 1976, is recognized as one of Asia's oldest and most significant international film festivals. It serves as a crucial platform for introducing Hong Kong, Chinese language, and other Asian cinema to a global audience, while also bringing international films to local viewers. Annually, the festival screens a diverse selection of over 200 films from more than 50 countries in various cultural venues across Hong Kong, making it one of the territory's largest cultural events. The HKIFF is also an Academy Award® Qualifying Festival, with winners in its Short Film and Documentary Competitions eligible for Academy Award® consideration.
