Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF) is an annual event held in Providence and Newport, Rhode Island, with additional locations throughout the state. Produced by Flickers, a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization, the festival, founded in 1997 by George T. Marshall, is recognized as New England's largest film festival. RIIFF is a qualifying festival for the Academy Awards in the Live Action, Documentary, and Animation Short Film categories, and also qualifies for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) and Canadian Screen Awards, a distinction shared by only a select few festivals worldwide. The festival screens hundreds of international independent films and offers various programs including educational workshops and industry seminars.
