The Flahertiana International Documentary Film Festival is an annual event held in Perm, Russia, specializing in documentaries that adhere to the cinematographic aesthetic introduced by Robert Flaherty in "Nanook of the North". Founded in 1995 by filmmakers from the Perm region, it officially became an annual international festival in 2006, featuring an international competition jury and a FIPRESCI jury. The festival's core principle revolves around portraying a protagonist's real life on screen, structured according to dramatic art through long-term observation and habitual camera techniques. In addition to its international competition, Flahertiana includes a national competition called "Russian Flahertiana" and various special programs, seminars, and workshops.
