Fantasporto, also known as the Oporto International Film Festival, is an international genre film festival established in 1981 and held annually in Porto, Portugal. Founded by Mário Dorminsky, Beatriz Pacheco Pereira, and José Manuel Pereira, it focuses on fantasy, science fiction, and horror films, as well as auteur and experimental cinema. Recognized as one of the world's most prestigious genre film festivals, Fantasporto has gained a reputation for premiering films that go on to achieve cult status. The festival features competitive sections including the Official Competition for Fantasy Films, Directors' Week for non-fantasy features, and the Orient Express for Asiatic feature films. The highest honor awarded at the festival is the Grande Prémio Fantasporto, presented to the best feature film in the official competition.
