The Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) is an annual film festival held in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal province, South Africa, and is widely recognized as a leading film festival in Africa. Founded in 1979 by Teddy and Ros Sarkin, it is the oldest and largest film festival in Southern Africa. Presented by the Centre for Creative Arts at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, DIFF features a wide array of South African, African, and international cinema, with most screenings being premieres in the region. The festival also hosts filmmaker workshops, industry seminars, discussion forums, and outreach activities, including screenings in township areas where cinemas are not available. DIFF includes a competition section for features, documentaries, short films, and student films, with some categories offering monetary awards.
