The Detroit Black Film Festival (DBFF) is an annual event dedicated to showcasing the voices and stories of Black independent filmmakers nationwide, highlighting African American experiences, narratives, and culture. The festival screens high-quality films from both seasoned and emerging filmmakers, including thought-provoking documentaries and captivating narratives. Uniquely, the DBFF also incorporates the "Taste of Black Spirits" event, a "Liquid Forum" that celebrates Black-owned spirit, beer, and wine brands, merging cinema, culture, and cocktails. The 6th annual festival, for example, showcased 72 outstanding films from 30 countries. Co-founded by Lazar and Marshalle Favors of Trinity Films Entertainment Group, the DBFF has become Michigan's premier film festival, screening over 500 films by Black filmmakers within its first six years.
