Cine Curtas Lapa is an independent, non-profit international short film festival with free admission, established in November 2011 and holding its first competitive screening in October 2012. Initially, its goal was to showcase films made in or themed around Rio de Janeiro, particularly short films, to promote the audiovisual industry in the city's traditional Lapa neighborhood. From its second year in 2013, the festival expanded to include productions from Brazil and worldwide, becoming a "plural and multicultural" event. It features popular and professional jury awards across various categories for Brazilian and international short films, including fiction, animation, and documentary.
