The Braunschweig International Film Festival, also known as Braunschweig International Filmfest until 2018, is the oldest regularly held film festival in Lower Saxony, Germany, having been founded in 1987 by 20 university students and film enthusiasts. The festival focuses on "New International Cinema," German productions, and a comprehensive short film program. A unique aspect of the festival is its dedication to the relationship between film and music, inviting renowned film composers to present their works and discuss their craft. In collaboration with the Braunschweig State Orchestra, the festival often opens with a film concert featuring new compositions. The 38th edition of the festival, held in November 2024, screened 210 films, including several world and German premieres.
