The Blackbird Film Festival is a nonprofit organization based in central New York state that celebrates and supports independent filmmakers from around the world. Founded in 2015, the festival initially focused on teen filmmakers before opening submissions to all filmmakers in 2016. Blackbird strives to curate an inclusive festival atmosphere, ensuring that at least 50% of selected films are written and/or directed by women, and actively seeks diverse voices from BIPOC filmmakers, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and people with different abilities. The festival hosts screenings, awards ceremonies, and networking events, with past editions held at venues such as SUNY Cortland and Greek Peak's Outdoor Cinema.
