The Better Cities Film Festival is an annual event that showcases inspiring stories about urban planning, placemaking, and how to create better cities, towns, and neighborhoods. Originally founded as the New Urbanism Film Festival in Hollywood in 2013, it was renamed the Better Cities Film Festival in 2019 and relocated its flagship event to Detroit, Michigan. The festival screens films exploring themes such as neighborhood revitalization, affordable housing, biking and mobility, the environment, and community resilience. In addition to film screenings, the festival includes discussions, workshops, and local tours to connect Detroit's story of renewal with global conversations on urban development. The Better Cities Film Festival also partners with UN-Habitat, bringing the festival to international conferences like the World Urban Forum. Screenings at the Detroit flagship event often take place at Campus Martius Park, a prominent public square in the city.
