The Baku International Film Festival, also known historically as "Start", was established in 2004 by the Young Filmmakers Center of Azerbaijan. Recognized as the longest-running film festival in Azerbaijan, it showcases award-winning films from prestigious international festivals such as Cannes, Venice, Berlin, and the Oscars. The festival serves as a platform for young cinematographers, accepting short films in fiction, documentary, and animation categories from approximately 89 countries. Its objective is to review and discuss films, familiarize local authors with international practices, and facilitate networking between local and foreign directors.
