International Animation Day (IAD) is a global observance proclaimed in 2002 by the Association Internationale du Film d'Animation (ASIFA) to celebrate the art of animation. Held annually on October 28th, it commemorates Emile Reynaud's first public performance of projected moving images in Paris on that date in 1892. ASIFA coordinates and promotes IAD celebrations worldwide, which involve screenings, workshops, exhibitions, and other events organized by its chapters and partner institutions to highlight animation as an art form and a medium for cultural expression.
