The Asian Pop-Up Cinema (APUC) is Chicago's only Pan-Asian film festival, founded in 2015 as a non-profit by Sophia Wong Boccio through Sophia's Choice. Its mission is to cultivate interest and understanding of Asian cultures through a diverse selection of Asian films, connect the Asian film industry with local Chicago professionals, and promote Chicago as a destination for international visitors. The festival showcases films from various Asian countries, including mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam, presented in their original language with English subtitles. Since its inception, APUC has showcased over 400 films and, by its 10th anniversary in 2025, evolved into a juried film festival. It has also expanded to include works by Asian Americans based in the United States and Canada.
