The American Zoetrope Screenwriting Competition is an annual contest established by Francis Ford Coppola to discover and promote new voices in cinema. The competition accepts entries for feature-length film scripts and pilot scripts for television/streaming services. A grand prize of $5,000 is awarded to the winner, and the scripts of the top ten finalists are forwarded to leading production companies and talent agencies for consideration, including American Zoetrope itself. Francis Ford Coppola and the American Zoetrope staff personally select the winner from among the finalists.
