The American Film Institute Festival (AFI FEST) is an annual international film festival organized by the American Film Institute, held in Los Angeles, California. Recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, it serves as a qualifying festival for the Live Action, Animated, and Documentary Short Film categories of the Academy Awards, as well as for British Short Film categories for both the BAFTA Film Awards and the British Independent Film Awards (BIFA). AFI FEST showcases a curated selection of films from across the globe, including Red Carpet Premieres, Special Screenings, World Cinema, Documentaries, and Short Films. The festival is notable for being the only film festival of its stature that is free to the public.
