The 90-Second Newbery Film Festival is an annual video contest where young filmmakers create short movies, typically around 90 seconds, that retell the entire stories of Newbery Medal or Honor-winning books. Founded in 2011 by author James Kennedy, the festival aims to encourage literacy and filmmaking among children by having them adapt classic children's literature with creative twists, such as reimagining "Charlotte's Web" as a horror film or "Holes" as a musical. The best submissions are featured in free, live screenings co-hosted by Kennedy and other children's authors in various cities across the United States.
