The 90-Second Newbery Film Festival is an annual international video contest where young filmmakers create short movies, approximately 90 seconds in length, that retell the entire stories of Newbery-winning books, often with creative twists. Founded in 2011 by author James Kennedy, the festival encourages literacy and filmmaking among children. The best submissions are showcased at free, public screenings across numerous cities in the United States, including New York, Chicago, San Antonio, and Minneapolis, often co-hosted by Kennedy and other award-winning children's authors. Each submitted film receives a personalized review on the festival's website.
