The 48 Hour Film Project is an annual international film competition that challenges teams of filmmakers to create a short film in just 48 hours. Initiated in Washington D.C. in 2001, the competition assigns each team a genre, a character, a prop, and a line of dialogue that must be included in their film. After the 48-hour filmmaking period, local screenings are held in participating cities around the globe, and a city winner is selected. These city winners advance to Filmapalooza, an annual international festival where the year's Grand Champion is announced, and selected films also have the opportunity to screen at the Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner.
