The 48 Hour Film Project Cape Town is a local edition of the global 48 Hour Film Project, challenging filmmakers to create a short film in just one weekend. Teams are given a genre, character, prop, and line of dialogue on a Friday evening and must write, shoot, and edit their film before the Sunday night deadline. The resulting films are premiered in local theaters, with the "Best Film" from Cape Town advancing to Filmapalooza, an annual international festival where it competes against winners from other participating cities worldwide and has a chance to screen at the Cannes Film Festival.
