The 28th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) took place from December 15 to 22, 2022, in Kolkata, India, with its opening ceremony held at Netaji Indoor Stadium. The festival showcased 183 films, comprising 130 feature films and 52 short and documentary films, from 42 countries. It commenced with Hrishikesh Mukherjee's 1973 film *Abhimaan*. Notable attendees at the inauguration included West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Mahesh Bhatt, and Sourav Ganguly. The Golden Royal Bengal Tiger Award for Best Film was jointly awarded to the Spanish film *Upon Entry* and the Bangladeshi film *The Golden Wings of Watercocks*, while Ernesto Ardito and Virna Molina received the Best Director award for *Hitler's Witch*. The festival also featured a retrospective on Amitabh Bachchan and introduced a new 'Game On' category for sports-related films.
